Carnevale di Venezia 2016
My mommy is Italian. Her father came from Padua and her mother from Venice, where she lived the first few years of her life. From time to time they moved to Switzerland. In the past time we visited Venice a few times but never got the chance to participate at the carnival. This year, her childhood dream got real!
So we fly on Friday ,the fifth of February from Zurich to Venice. Took the bus to the island and then the boat until we reached our small but reeeally cute hotel B&B Settimo Cielo.
Some days before we informed us about the possibilities of renting carnival costumes. So we went to theHotel Baglioni Luna where on the second floor you can find the Atelier Fiona. Fiona is an elderly Lady which creates every carnival dress by herself and her small amount of employees. Together they collect lots of costumes which where seen in the Late Middle Ages. Beside the dress you always wear a mask which covers minimum half of your face.
After a while we got dressed in beautiful baroque costumes wearing amazing venetian masks!
The next day we planned to get dressed up in our costumes, shooting some pictures of each other and strolling trough the alleys of Venice. But just as we got out of the hotel entrance people started to ask us if they could take pictures and selfies with us! It was a funny feeling being a tourist and at the same time a tourist attraction! (even Tele Venezia asked us for pictures and live-videos)
To get a break from the paparazzi we took a gondola and drove trough the canals of venice.
For the night we joined a Carnival-Prom where only people wearing costumes were allowed to enter.
The next day we went shopping and visited the Libreria Acqua Alta (an old bookstore with a stair made out of hundreds of books).
We had dinner at Al Vaporetto where we enjoyed delicious Italian food!
